Christian Pulisic was left off the U.S. men’s national team roster Thursday as coach Mauricio Pochettino began the team’s first camp since the 2026 World Cup. The 28-player roster includes 13 players who have never appeared for the senior national team, including 16-year-old Philadelphia Union midfielder Cavan Sullivan.

Sullivan, who made his Major League Soccer debut at 14 in 2024, could become the youngest U.S. men’s national team player since Freddy Adu debuted in 2006. He will be two days shy of his 17th birthday when the United States plays Peru on Sept. 26 in Orlando. Eleven other players on the roster could also make their international debuts.

Pulisic was injured during the United States’ 4-1 loss to Belgium in the World Cup round of 16. He was diagnosed with a microfracture in his right leg and did not make his season debut for AC Milan until last weekend. Pulisic scored no goals at the World Cup and missed one match because of a calf injury.

The United States will play four friendlies during the upcoming international window, facing Peru on Sept. 26, Chile on Sept. 29, Mexico on Oct. 3 and Canada on Oct. 6. Yunus Musah also returns to the national team after last playing for the United States in March 2025.

The roster marks the beginning of the U.S. team’s preparations for the next World Cup cycle, with Pochettino introducing a group that includes both returning veterans and young players seeking their first international appearances.
