In Game 2 of the National League Division Series, the Philadelphia Phillies pulled off an electric 7-6 victory over the New York Mets. Mets starter Luis Severino held the Phillies scoreless through nearly seven innings, but Trea Turner’s single and Bryce Harper’s massive 431-foot homer shifted momentum, tying the game at 3-3 after Nick Castellanos’ homer. The Mets fought back, with Brandon Nimmo’s homer reclaiming a 4-3 lead for New York, before Edwin Diaz entered for a long save attempt.
Philadelphia responded with a two-run triple from Bryson Stott that put them up 5-4. The score moved to 6-4 when J.T. Realmuto hit a soft chopper to Mark Vientos that he wasn’t able to handle. But in the top of the ninth, Vientos bounced back, tying the game at 6-6 with a two-run homer. Mets reliever Tylor Megill then issued back-to-back two-out walks to Turner and Harper – setting up Castellanos for a walk-off single that ultimately clinched the win for Philadelphia. Castellanos’ heroics tied the series at 1-1, building anticipation for Game 3 on October 8 at Citi Field—the Mets’ first home playoff game since September.
