Penn State’s football team picked up its first true road win of the Matt Campbell era earlier this month, pulling away from Temple 27-9 in front of a crowd of nearly 62,000 at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia. Despite the game being played at Temple’s own stadium, Nittany Lion supporters turned out in such force that the atmosphere leaned distinctly in Penn State’s favor.
The game started slowly for Penn State, which let Temple strike first before reeling off 27 unanswered points to take control. Quarterback Rocco Becht carried much of the offensive load, throwing for 268 yards and three touchdowns, while the Nittany Lions racked up 416 total yards on the day — a mark they’ve now cleared in back-to-back games to open the season. Running back Carson Hansen paced the ground attack with 84 yards on 19 carries, and tight end Benjamin Brahmer hauled in a 23-yard touchdown grab as part of the scoring outburst.
Penn State’s defense didn’t let Temple find the end zone until the game’s final possession, extending a scoreless streak against opponents that now stretches back seven quarters, spanning into the previous week’s game. Linebacker Tony Rojas led the unit with seven tackles and his first interception of the season, while defensive end Yvan Kemajou picked up his first sack of the year in the win.
The victory improved Penn State to 2-0 on the young season under Campbell, who took over the program this year with a notably different approach than his predecessor. The team returns to Beaver Stadium later this month to continue building on its early-season momentum.
