Philadelphia 76ers forward Paul George hyperextended his left knee during Monday night’s preseason game against the Atlanta Hawks, forcing him to exit in the second quarter. He did not return for the second half, finishing with eight points, two rebounds, one assist, and one steal in 12 minutes of play.
George signed with the 76ers in the offseason to potentially form the NBA’s newest big three alongside Joel Embiid and Tyrese Maxey. After falling short in the playoffs throughout the Embiid era, the team has high expectations for the 2024-25 regular season.
At this time, it is unclear if George will be healthy enough to suit up for the first regular season game against the Milwaukee Bucks next Wednesday, Oct. 23.
Head Coach Doc Rivers has already kept Embiid out in the preseason for left knee management. Despite these injuries heading into the regular season, the Sixers have signed veterans Andre Drummond, Eric Gordon, Caleb Martin Jr. and brought back Kelly Oubre Jr. and Kyle Lowry in free agency, among other moves.
In the end, the Sixers were able to claim victory over the Hawks, 104-89.
