As the summer travel season reaches its peak, pump prices have remained remarkably stable and are even creeping lower in some states. As of July 23, the national average price for gasoline stands at $3.50 per gallon, which is a decrease of two cents from a week ago and nine cents from the same time last year. Analysts attribute this trend primarily to weak demand and fluctuating oil prices.

Across Pennsylvania, fuel costs are sliding at a similar rate. The statewide average has dropped to $3.64 per gallon, which is four cents less than last week and seven cents less than last year.

Drivers in the northeastern region of the state are also seeing notable savings at the pump. At $3.50 per gallon, East Stroudsburg boasts some of the most affordable fuel in the Commonwealth, down five cents from last week and sixteen cents over the past year. Similarly, the Scranton–Wilkes-Barre–Hazleton metropolitan area saw its average gallon price dip four cents this week to reach the current rate of $3.57. This figure signifies a fifteen-cent decline over the past year.

These lower prices are providing some much-needed relief for summer travelers and are a welcome change from the typically higher costs during peak vacation months.
